04 Dec 2004 Foucault Pendulum

This week's Photo Friday is "reflection."

This is the Foucault Pendulum at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. It swings back and forth and also rotates ever so slowly, knocking down a new block every few minutes. The precession of the pendulum's swing visually demonstrates the rotation of the Earth.

If you look closely, you can see me in my khaki pants and red t-shirt sitting on the floor, reflected in the pendulum's mirrored surface.

(I took the picture a couple months ago, and it's also been listed over at Mirror Project.)
