16 Apr 2005 Juan Manuel

Last Tuesday night at a local bar, ~300 people gathered together here in Houston as part of Yuri's Night, a global celebration of space exploration. April 12 was the 44th anniversary of Yuri Garagin's 1961 flight that made him the first person to orbit the Earth. The Houston celebration was held at the Outpost Tavern, a local dive bar that has a long history of catering to astronauts, NASA management, and the grunt engineers like me. :)

We had a full night's lineup of local musicians out on the back patio, and the weather was gorgeous. First up was Juan Manuel, a classical, jazz and flamenco guitarist, composter, and singer. He's been considered for Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations, and also works for a NASA contractor. His music was fantastic.

In other news, while this blog is on autopilot I'm off riding with 13,000 other people in the MS150, a bike ride from Houston to Austin benefitting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. If you are interested in sponsoring my ride, please feel free.
