03 May 2005 Wings Spread

This great blue heron was just chillin' on the same rocky outcropping I was standing on to shoot the surfer pictures two days ago. He was pretty fearless for a bird; I got within 10 or 15 feet of him before he flew away. This shot was actually taken after I had startled him; he flew to this spot about 30 feet away and was just landing when I snapped this photo.

In other news, I'm proud to have written and photographed an article in the May issue of Photoblogs Magazine. (Other contributors are Massimo, Zishaan, Whit, John, and Pablo. Thanks as well to editor Matt.) The article is about some of the historical items around NASA's Johnson Space Center. Those of you who know me and work with me probably won't learn anything new, but for those who don't, I hope it's educational. :)
