14 Oct 2005 Mars on Earth

I'm in Pasadena, California for another couple days at JPL. Today we took a break from our brainstorming on how JSC and JPL can collaborate for future lunar and Mars mission to see a lot of the robotics at JPL. This is the full-scale, full-capability mockup of the Spirit and Opportunity rovers that landed on Mars in January 2004 and are still tooling around up there today. When they get stuck, or when they need to test something, they do it in this room.

We didn't actually go in because, well, that powdery red Martian dust simulant goes everywhere.
