I was signed up to run a 10K yesterday morning, but on Friday afternoon when I went to pick up my packet at the running store, I overheard the race coordinator saying they didn't have anyone to take photos. I couldn't help myself -- "I take photos," I said, and offered to shoot their race. It was a small race, maybe 150 people total. This guy won the 5K race and was ahead of his nearest competition by a long shot. I've shot a number of races now, and one thing I've noticed is that the leaders (the fast guys) never look at you. They never look at the camera, and never acknowledge that you're there. It's always the people in the middle and at the back of the pack that make funny faces for you and such. So to see this guy notice me, and pose for me, all while running at a good clip, was pretty unusual. I liked it. After the race was over, I laced on my shoes and did one loop of the course -- 5K. So in a sense, I did run the race...just an hour later than originally scheduled!
